  • May 13th 2008 New venue. Following the building of the sports complex at Tonbridge School we are now able to relocate the club to these new facilities beginning on Tuesday the 13th of May. Please note the entrance to the sports complex is not through the avenue by the side of the school but is actually about 250 yards along the London Road towards Hildenborough.

  • Peter Barwell joins Coaching staff. I am delighted to welcome Peter as a coach to the Salle to give lessons for part of the Tuesday evenings. The most successful British Youth Champion of the decade, he has held the Title six times now and is consistently ranked in the top group of cadets. He will bring considerable tactical awareness as well as technical skills to the club.

  • Hannah Nelson wins LPJS Coventry. Hannah took gold in the U13 Sabre in a fine display that showed her dominance of Ladies Sabre in this age group: hardly dropping a match throughout the whole competition despite being injured. This win now gives her the number one ranking in the series.

  • Increased training sessions to two per week. I am in contact with the school hoping to organise additional sessions so that the club can meet twice each week. Several of you have requested training on Saturday mornings and hopefully the gym will be free at that time. I will give more information as soon as I am able.

  • Sophie Sinclair-Jones has been chosen to fence for GB in the World Championships at the beginning of April. Sophie has been one of the top Ladies Epee Cadets being ranked either first or second for most of the year.

  • Lloyd Jefferson has again shown his ability to stay at the top of his game.  We congratulate Lloyd for being selected for the Welsh Fencing Team for the Home International Junior Fencing Tournament to be held in Stoke on 23rd February 2008.  This will be his last year at this level having now been selected continuously for the last six years and we hope he will be able to retain the trophy won last year.

  • Congratulations also to Alek Makucewicz on gaining a Bronze at Liverpool with a fine return to form.

  • Haysbrook Sports Partnership is supporting an interesting initiative bringing selected pupils from schools in Tonbridge to do short beginner courses at Judd. The first course concluded with the British Fencing Grade 1 Foil Examinations and electric fencing for the participants on the 14th of February. Successful students came from Hillview School, Weald of Kent, Mascalls, Tonbridge Girls Grammar and Haysbrook School and we hope these will go on to develop the skills they have gained.

  • National Schools' Teams. These took place on the 3rd and 4th of March at Upper Heyford. In the Foil Tonbridge were edged out into Bronze medal place by Judd who went on to win, narrowly beating Westminster in the final. In the Foil and Sabre Tonbridge again fought their way through to take Bronze. Congratulations to Miles and his team at Judd and all the boys from Tonbridge.

  • British Youth Championships - Congratulations to all those who took part in the British Youth Championships and especially Peter Barwell who took Gold and is the new National Champion (again!).

  • We seem to be making headlines at the moment with Alek Makucewicz making the front page of his local paper and of course Peter being interviewed by the Kent Messenger.

  • Kent Schools Canterbury 28 January 2007 - This was a clean sweep in the foil and epee with fencers from Gravesham and Tonbridge taking every medal. Congratulations to Ben for the Gold in Foil and Miles for the Gold in Epee.
